So what's the best movies (or shows) about music?
Hard Core Logo is one of my favorites. It's a noteworthy Canadian film but not very well known in the States. It's a fictional piece about a punk band that reunites for a tour of Canada that goes off the rails. The first time I saw it, it seemed like it moved kind of slow but it has a really good original soundtrack so I kept watching for the music. It's a bit of a thinker and some of the plot devices are subtle so it was better the second time I watched it, and it seems like a pretty accurate portrayal of band life. Every band has a Joe Dick, a Billy Tallent, a Johnny the Ox and a Pipefitter. I believe it is on Netflix.
Honorable mention: That Thing You Do. Hilarious.

I dunno about movies or shows, but Patti smith's memoir "Just Kids" was pretty frikkin awesome. Was pretty inspiring about living the creative life.
